Daily Foot Care

How to inspect, wash and protect your feet every single day.

For someone with diabetes, a few minutes of daily foot care is one of the most powerful things you can do to avoid a serious wound. Nerve damage can hide pain, so a small problem can grow unnoticed — a daily check catches it early.

Check your feet every day

  • Look at the soles, heels and between the toes — use a mirror or ask for help if you can't see them.
  • Look for cuts, blisters, redness, swelling, colour changes or hard skin.
  • Feel for warm spots, which can be an early sign of pressure or infection.

Wash and dry with care

  • Wash daily with lukewarm (not hot) water — test the temperature with your elbow.
  • Dry gently but thoroughly, especially between the toes.
  • Moisturise dry skin, but never between the toes.

Protect them all day

  • Never walk barefoot, even indoors.
  • Check inside your shoes for stones or rough edges before putting them on.
  • Cut nails straight across, or have them cared for professionally.

If you notice any cut, blister, colour change or swelling, contact us the same day — early care prevents most diabetic foot emergencies.
